Ladocsi Gáspár püspök úr a Hargitáról ajándékozott hatalmas tölgyfa keresztet megszentelte.

Menedékhely, a hittel, szívvel, Isten és természet szeretetével áldott  nagysága felismerésétől lecsendesedett emberek számára, akik idejöhetnek megmerítkezni, mintegy szentelt vízbe, mely fertőtleníti őket a világ lélekpusztító vírusaitól.

A szegényasszony húsz fillérje, imája ugyanolyan értéknövelő.

A kápolna két tornyában két előrehajló csuklyás pálos remete tekintete áll őrt.

És a Pilis fehér mészkő szikláira, a fundamentumra Urunk kedves hegyére, melynek mészkő teste évszázadokon át a falu megélhetőségét biztosító mészégetés lehetőségét adta jó emlékű őseinknek, megépült a kápolna.

Szokásától eltérően békés féltékenységgel közéjük furakodott a sólyom is. Egyik hét végi munka végeztével a falu felől egy fehér galamb szállt a toronyra, el sem akart menni. Ott is hagytuk mikor elaludt.

A munkaerő javarészét a Makovecz vándoriskola építészhallgatói és műegyetemista diákok adták. Kitűnő lecke volt számukra nem csak szakmailag. A fagyálló kötőanyag kikísérletezésének kudarca, időálló minőségi falazó kő megtalálása, hetekig tartő 35 fokos kánikula elviselése, a falu megismerése, mind-mind gazdagította élettapasztalataikat.

Ők ketten a Pilis Keresztjével együtt hirdették,  a Kárpátok hegyeivel megölelt medence népeinek közösségét.

A kápolna bejárata fölötti, Varázskő Kft.  műhelyében, Altbacker Gyuritól kapott kőből faragott Napmadár kitárt szárnyaival hívja a betérni szándékozót és köszönti a hegyszorosból vele szemben felkelő Napot. A két szárny között nyugvó Nap egyben a megváltó Krisztus testét, az oltári szentség kisugárzását is mutatja.

A kupola tetején fekvő Buckó György készítette üveg fénynyílás alakja a szántói Pálos Keresztes Kő formáját kapta mintegy égi utasítás az ide belépőnek aki ezáltal egyfajta érzelmi beavatáson esik át. A kapu hétágú fém életfáját Kontúr Balázs ültette vaskeretbe Janovszki Feri lakatosmester udvarában. A kápolna előtti téren álló homokkő oltár a Hosszú hegy tetején ismeretlen körülmények közt született. Ki tudja mikor, milyen célból? A vastag erdő fái közt titkát őrző kőnek mostantól itt lesz feladata.

Szent György vonalon álló kör alakú kápolna ősi forma, több szempontból is Árpád-kori fénytemplomokkal azonos lényegű. A földtől négyszög formából induló oltár, az ég felé emelkedve  az egyetemesség körében végződik. Pilisszántói őseink emlékét az oltárba beépített szenteltvíztartó őrzi mely egykor generációkon keresztül a régi ravatalozó tartozéka volt. Rozmaring ágacskát belemártva szentelte meg az elhunytat a részvétét nyilvánító, mielőtt a koporsót lezárták.

December 21-én csütörtökön hajnalban, a kivilágított kápolnától a völgybe nézve, hosszú fényszórós kocsisor közeledett végig a vörösvári úton. Székesfehérvárról Spányi Antal püspök úr a pilisi falvak papjaival együtt 8 órakor szentmise keretén belül megszentelte a kápolnát.

Uram!

Bárhová néz tekintetünk, innen a te arcodat látjuk mindenhol.

Kérünk, tarts meg minket munkásaidnak terveidhez, legyen meg továbbra is a Te akaratod. Amen.

The chapel of Our Lady of Pilisszántó

On October 16th 1996 people from the three villages of the Pilismountains, Vörösvar Szentkereszt and Szántó, arrived in Medjugorje . After a strenuous bus trip travelling through hail and storm, the people of the group commonly realized that the site of Medjugorje was very similar to the site in the Pilismountains, which was just missing the cross.

From this they got an inspiration which became reality in Pilisszantó on December 20th, 2003. On this day Bishop Gaspar Ladocsi consecrated a huge conifer cross donated from the Hargita Mountains. People feel that this is a site full of peace and charisma where you can find relief from the ever-bustling modern world which does notgive you true happiness. It is a place which allows you to return home for a while, to the fireplace of the ancestors to whom we are connected by our blood.

In the passing of history the site of Pilisszántó obtained a certain role within the sacred significance of the Pilismountains, which calls us to find answers to exciting new questions.

It was obvious to us that we should create a worthy memorial to our ancestors who had been falsely called barbarians: a symbol in the Pilis , the  holy mountains in history of the Carpate Valley. In the midst of the forest of Pilis this is a chapel, which is far away from the villages and which spreads a certain atmosphere. It is a refuge for people who want to find God and His love in nature by searching faithfully for peace in their hearts. Here they can dive in like diving into the sacred water which protects them from the germs and negative influences of the modern world.

It is also a sacred refuge for our loved ones who left us behind and who are facing God's judgement.

Many people are invited to visit this chapel.

The idea of building this chapel grew within four years. From the first step it was a matter of course that the chapel could only be build on the basis of donations and voluntary work. Only   people should participate who believe in the idea and the message of the chapel. The little coin of a poor woman and her prayers are as worthy as great visible donations. Because of this understanding the chapel gained its deep untouchable value and its soul.

A moral symbol of Christianity that holds up the nation since its foundation cannot be measured with money, but with the creative power of the people. The more we see the chaos of ideas in our shiny, modern world in the media the more the calling for deeper values seems to increase as these do not fade.

On the two towers of the chapel you can see the figures of two Pauline-eremites with hooded gowns leaning forward and watching the visitor. For the first time, on the day of the Immaculate Conception of our holy Virgin Mary, you could hear the little bells ringing from the monks' moustached and opened mouth. The bells were made in Örbottyán.

Two red and brown stones from the Pauline monastery of Patacs were put into the figures, exactly into the middle of the lower lip of the monks. The sound of the two bells reaches Csiksomlyó where Father Gergely cares for the beautiful image of Our Lady of Szantó painted in Pilisszánto by Rozália Hummel. Father Gergely received the picture in gratitude for the cross of Pilis.

Destiny created a symbolic bridge between the two places of prayer, the sanctuary of Babba Maria of Somlyó and the one of Our Lady of Szántó.  Between the yearning arms of the chapel of Szántó and the two towers of the church of Csiksomlyó we watch the same invigorating sun that arises again after winter solstice on December 21st ,the darkest night of the year from the bosom of  the valley with the sumeric name Ziribár. On this special day the newly created light shines around Our Lady whose figure is positioned behind the altar being a symbol of life as new life can only grow from the womb of a mother.

Having such a geographic position the chapel has a cosmic marking.

The first stone of the chapel was set on Monday 19th 2006,  after Tivadar Vas and Andreás Szöke  had made the foundation of the building by an iron-concrete layer and after the carpenter Tibor Kuhajda  had skilfully worked on the wooden cover for which the material was donated by József Molnár.  And everything was, as a matter of course, given for free. During all the time of working the determining atmosphere was full of optimistic happiness, hilarity, good will and the happy smile of the unselfish doing. An old way of doing was renewed:  God may reward you. We understood the message this way: The foundation is given by God. And it is also God who wants that these walls are built.

The chapel could become reality on the white chalk rock of Pilis, the beloved mountain of our Lord. The chalk of the inside of the mountain helped our beloved ancestors in the village to make their living by burning chalk. This way we can say that stone was our daily bread. In fact by building this chapel we laid down the founding stone on which the future of the nation can be built. The chapel announces the unity of the nation and the brotherly interdependence of the peoples on the Holy Crown. This idea was kept by the people of the Slowakian villages in the Pilis Mountains for centuries.

Imre Makovecz and his partner József Örfi planned a sacred building. The first concept had been a building completely of stone without application of wood. The unusual concept caused some unusual type of demands that could be faced nevertheless. There was always the sort of help that was needed, so many hands and so much money as was necessary. Many peoples brought their stones and put them into the wall anonymously, just because this act made them happy. Neither were there building companies that participated, nor public money was provided, not even certain deadlines were to keep. The ones who came along helped to build the walls. Sometimes somebody came along coincidently and joined the helpers.

It does not happen very often in a man of woman's life that he or she can build a chapel, especially such a one and at such a historic place. To create an imperishable place of rough simplicity and of spiritual power,  is an action which evokes in you  a feeling of extraordinary significance,  especially in a time of a perishable world of shiny shopping centres, banks and glass palaces. It is peace and calmness of conscience that are flowing through us.

Man and Women are elevated to freedom by this moral imperative; but they are forced to slavery by the modern world. The organizer of this work, however, is called honour. There was no long and complicated contract with many paragraphs, no signature by lawyers sealed with seven seals. We were directly looking into each others eyes, shook hands about the deal, and from that moment on, without any doubts, this hand-shake had the same validity as the Holy Scriptures. The cook of the village brought food for lunch. The producer of mineral water came along with the daily need of water. Some people brought cakes, wine, bread or delicacies of the village. Some brought their donations of money and others prayed for us. This sanctuary can never get along with a profit-oriented attitude of business. If it did the rare mystery of this exceptional miracle would get lost.

The grace of Our Lady cannot be seen as a reward by sneaks. To her there is more value in bowing your head. We believed that our heavenly mother made us feel as brothers and sisters.

While working sometimes we saw a couple of raven joyfully flying over us in circles. They belong to the sign of arms of the Pauline monks. Contrary to its usual habit a hawk joined them peacefully. In one of the weekends, after the work had been done,  a white dove flew from the village to the tower. It did not want to fly away, and when it fell asleep we did not try to frighten her away.

Most workers for this project were students of architecture of the school of Makovecz and Students of the Technical University. For them this was an excellent experience, not only concerning their subject.

The extreme challenge in producing a gluing material that could stand frost, the search for weather resistant stones for the walls having could quality,  the challenge of standing  the permanent  heat  of 35 degrees Celsius and finally the experience of getting to know the people of the village,  this all enriched their lives. Anybody who helped somehow and who supported the construction of the chapel created something of an extraordinary value.

According to archaeological findings in the area of Piliszántó the message of Our Lady, who is also the primeval mother of creation, has been the respect of life at any stage, from birth, the beginning of life,on. It has been like this for thousands of years and it is still like this today. Just as there are no palms growing in our mountains, but the oak; and as we do not have any paradise birds, but  ravens, just like this in our past nothing else than the Christian teaching has been at home in our region. Our soil sucked this teaching like a sponge. It cannot dry out, even when the weather is hot.

The louder the noise of the world around us, the more the need to have our chapel grows, because it is not wealth that teaches praying, but despair. A lighthouse offers light to everybody, but most of all it helps the shipwrecked in the storm. There is a significant truth imprinted on our chapel:  When we are in great misery and pain, then show to us that you are our mother.

This is also the message of the sculpture of Our Lady by László Péterfy. She is full of motherly grace, hope, comfort, encouragement and peace. The viewer cannot turn away the eyes from her. Unconsciously you also feel the need to care for our native country, for our families. Inside you cry whereas your soul rejoices in happiness. The statue of the forgiving mother holds a tulip in her hand which stands for our future showing the birth of new life. The inside of the chapel is filled with the mystery of her presence.

At the peak of our mountain, that can only be reached by alpinists, our 2, 5 metres long national flag has been waving since December 19th 2004. It was blessed and hoisted up by Father Vince and escorted by the sounds of the national hymn. The flag and the cross of Pilis announce the community of the peoples who live in the huge valley surrounded by the Carpate Mountains. Saint Stephan was their king. He defended them and felt responsible for them. The flag with the two angels and the sign of arms of the peoples of the Holy Crown was torn by storms just as it was torn by history. It could not peacefully wave on the mountain. After several repairs we got it down from the rock, laid it into Our Ladies' lap and devoted the broken flag, which stands for our broken native country, to her. Here it can rest. After the hymn we did not talk any more as a matter of decency, because the last word belongs to Her.

At the entrance of the chapel a sunbird, which was made from stone in the workshop of Varárzskö and donated by György Altbacker,  welcomes the visitor with its widely-spread wings and greats the sun rising over the ravine on the opposite side. The sun, which is between the two wings, symbolizes the body of Christ, the redeemer and the beaming stands for the Holy Sacrament.

On the roof of the cupola there is a high window constructed by György Buckó which has the shape of the stone of the Pauline cross that was found in Szantó. This is a sort of heavenly appeal to the visitor, a kind of emotional initiation. Apart from that there is a tree of life with seven branches made in metal on the gate which was made in an iron frame by Balazs Kontúr in the yard of the locksmith Ferenc Janovszki. The altar of sandstone on the square in front of the chapel was made on the peak of the mountain Hosszú under unknown circumstances. Nobody knows when and for what purpose. Lying between the trees the stone kept its secret, but finally it received a new mission.

The chapel standing on the St. George-Line has the shape of a circle and is in many ways very similar to the light churches from the time of the Arpades. The altar arises from the ground in the shape of a rectangle and rising towards heaven it ends in the circle of universality. There is a bowl for the Holy Water applied to the altar reminding us of our ancestors of Piliszánto. The bowl had been part of the old mortuary. Before the closing of the coffin the mourning person blessed the dead with a rosemary twig that he had dipped into the Holy Water.

On Thursday 21st  December 2006 in the early morning a line of cars approached the illuminated chapel on the road from Werischwar.  The people came to the consecration of the chapel. Although on that day sunrise was not visible from the valley of Ziribár  although the time of the day was rather unusual thousands of pilgrims came to this event. From Piliszántó our Holy Virgin spoke  to the whole country. At eight o'clock the bishop of Székesféhervár Antal Spányi celebrated a Holy Mass together with the priests of the villages of Pilis and consecrated the chapel. Katalin Pitti sang the Ave Maria. After that the women of Szánto served cakes, Christmas cakes, mulled wine and lemon tea to the pilgrims who had come from all parts of the country.

The chapel of Our Lady of Piliszánto became a common good. The chapel received its permission by our history, but its dignity by the faith and love of the people who had worked on it.  A new holy shrine of universal Christianity came into existence on a chosen mountain in the county of Mary. At the place the foundation of the Pauline Order this building of rough natural chalk stone rises like a part of the mountain in one block and expresses imperishable eternity. Here everybody who respects the old and mysterious adoration of Our Lady can express his devotion. The pilgrimage to her demands penitence and sacrifice.  But this is worth the effort, as every stone on the way that makes the pilgrims sweat draws the blessing onto them. Arriving at Our Lady we receive comfort, hope and strength. Prayer of the people who built the chapel of Our Lady

Lord! The chapel was built through your will and with your help, because you want the devotion to our heavenly mother.  You gave the joy and happiness of our work to everybody who could unselfishly participate in some kind of way. Your blessing rests on all our doing.

The chapel could be built in the faith and love that we received from you. We could set free the foundation on which the future of the nation can be built.

We thank you that we could feel your presence when solving the problems and we could feel your hand when trying to forget our worries.

We believe that even our smile and the happiness of the visitors were your gifts.

Wherever we look we see your face.

We ask you to keep us as your workers for your plans.

Your will be done for ever. Amen

Our Lady!

Thousand years ago when our nation was in great misery St. Stephan, who had been crowned in the Pilis, asked you for the protection of our nation.

Thanks to your protection our nation is still alive in our native country. Unfortunately we still are in need of your protection. At this moment, at the dawn of a new birth, we hope for the light of our creator and we ask you again not to take away your protecting hand from your country.

Without the grace of your motherly love our lives will fail. Protect us from evil, protect our families, our village our native country, all peoples of the Holy Crown. Amen.
